ABOUT

WELCOME!

Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands have a magic that will soak into your bones. Cedar Surfer was born to share with you all of the things these beautiful islands have to offer.

The people, the places, the food, and everything nature has blessed this region with, makeup some truly amazing communities. Our hope is that whether you're new to the islands, visiting or have lived here for years, you'll respectfully discover them, enjoy them, and help them thrive.

We visit and live on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish, Nuu chah nulth, and Kwakiutl first peoples. We honour these lands and the people by taking care of it and of each other.

Why cedar?

Did you know Canada's largest tree is the "Cheewat Cedar" on Vancouver Island, which measures 18.34 m (60.2 ft) in circumference and 55.5 m (182 ft) in height?

This enormous matriarch, a western red cedar, is an estimated age of 2,000 years old. This was the cedar's home before ours.

Cedar is a cherished symbol of the Northwest Coast. For thousands of years, coastal First Nations in British Columbia have relied on it not just for making goods, but as a vital part of their spiritual and ceremonial traditions.

We are lucky to be surrounded by the beauty of cedar and the rich natural worl it represents.

Why surfer?

Not because of the great surf around the island, but because surf symbolizes going with the flow. Check out from the busyness of your mind, unplug, chill out, and just roll with whatever comes your way.
