10 Summer Activities to do in September

Updated: Sep 9, 2019

Summer doesn't end when we hit September 1! The hot weather might just stick around for a bit. Check out these 10 summer activities to do in Victoria this September. Be safe and have fun!

In no particular order...

#1 After work hike

Hello darkness my old friend... before it gets too dark, get an after work hike in and hit the trail at Mount Work. For a more mellow hike, check out Mount Doug or the Matheson Lake Loop.

#2 Canoe, boat, paddle board or kayak on Prospect Lake

Prospect lake is 20 minutes from Victoria. A small refreshing lake, the evening water is like glass and the sunsets are incredible. If you want to bring your pole, the lake is stocked with 1,000 – 5,000 rainbow trout each year.

#3 Picnic/bbq in Beacon Hill Park

Picnicking is one of our favourite things to do (another post in itself). Beacon Hill Park is close to town and has many spots to choose from. Bring your croquet, boccie, spike ball etc.

#4 Learn about lavender at Bilston Creek Farm

Who doesn't love lavender. This gorgeous property is rich with history. Learn how their products are made and check out the farm! They also host a variety of events and workshops.

#5 Ice. Cream.

Ice cream is a post in itself but here are several great spots to check out during the sizzle of September: Parachute in Rock Bay, Cold Comfort in North Park, Fol Epi in Dockside Green, Kid Sister in China Town.

#6 Take a dip in the Gorge

The Queen has. Curtis Point is one of the best ocean swimming spots in the city (in our opinion). A lot of people are afraid of swimming in the Gorge but it is actually one of the cleaner bodies of water! Float in salty waters, get bronzed, watch the sun go down.

Where: head into Gorge Park off Gorge Rd. West - you will find the trail and just past the community gardens hang a right out onto the rocks of Curtis Point (you will see the Gorge Pointe Pub directly across).

#7 Bike pub-crawl

Hit up the new(ish) breweries in town! Whistle Buoy Brewing in Market Square, Phillips Tasting Room in China Town area, the new and improved Swans Brewery and Pub, Moon Under Water Brewery and Pub in Rock Bay, Herald Street Brew Works (okay, this brewery isn't opened yet but watch out for it!)

For an EXTENSIVE list and much longer bike crawl - check out the awesome BC ALE TRAIL

#8 Dinner on the new patio at Wind Cries Mary

Elevated cabin food fit for modern times. New to the Victoria restaurant scene, Wind Cries Mary (located in Bastion Square) is a great spot for summer afternoon or night time wine (FYI our afternoon wine is rose and night time wine is red ;) ). For the night owls - they have Industry Hour: 10:30PM- closing which features great food and drinks.

#9 Bike around dressed in tweed

Celebrate a bygone era at the 9th Annual Tweed Ride! Tour beautiful Victoria by bicycle at a slower, easier pace dressed in tweed. This year’s Ride will raise funds for Humanity Victoria to assist in their effort to send a container-load of bikes to Namibia.

#10 Sunset walks on Dallas Road at the end of September

September has the BEST sunsets. You can walk along the path or go down below the bluffs to walk the beach. This area is majorly dog friendly, so bring your pooch! If you'd like a bit of a quieter walk - cross over to the other side of the road (starting at Cook st.) and it is just as lovely walking past the houses. Walk a little further and catch the sunset at the Gonzales Observatory.
